Introduction
Geolocation allows websites to request your physical location, enhancing services like maps, weather updates or local search results. Brave Browser provides granular controls to enable or disable geolocation per site or globally. This article explains how to manage location permissions in Brave on desktop and mobile platforms.
What Is Geolocation
Geolocation refers to the process of identifying your physical location using data from your device, such as GPS, Wi-Fi networks or IP address. Websites use this information to tailor content based on where you are, but it also raises privacy considerations. Brave’s permission controls let you balance functionality and privacy.
Supported Platforms
- Brave Desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux)
- Brave for Android
- Brave for iOS
Global vs. Per-Site Permissions
Brave categorizes location access into two levels:
- Global (default) setting: Applies a default behavior for all websites.
- Per-site setting: Overrides the global default for specific websites.

Managing Geolocation on Brave for iOS
iOS handles location permissions at the operating-system level. Brave cannot override these settings.
- Open your iOS Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap Brave.
- Select Location.
- Choose one of:
- Never – Blocks all requests.
- Ask Next Time – Prompts on each request.
- While Using the App – Allows when Brave is in foreground.
Troubleshooting
- No prompt appears: Ensure the global default allows sites to ask for location.
- Location inaccurate: Check device settings (GPS, Wi-Fi) and ensure Brave has OS-level access.
- Cleared site data: Per-site permissions may reset after clearing cookies or browsing data.
